Greg Carmichael from DESERO Corporation hosted a lively discussion
of the influence gap between external consulting firms and internal
IT professionals in business today. The group provided insight into
both the
causes and effects of the loss of credibility and access at the highest
levels of the corporation. There was a general consensus that the
role of IT within the organization had devolved to a "repair
and maintain" function devoid of interest or involvement in jugular
business decisions. The discussion ended with a review of the transformation
of the "Big Eight" accounting firms into the consulting
power houses of today. Mr. Carmichael provided a briefing document
designed to prepare an internal IT staff to compete with external
consulting groups.
